Fever In The Road is an exploration of The Bamboos’ pop sensibilities, which turn out to be just as unique as anything they’ve done before. Band leader Lance Ferguson told Dig Music the decision to drop their long tradition of guest vocalists came after difficulty replicating the sound of 2012’s Medicine Man on stage.
“We’ve had a cast of thousands but for this record I really felt I wanted it to be a statement of us as a live band and a live band in the studio.”
Not relying on outside talent meant The Bamboos could discover the full range of their in house vocalists, in the form of lynchpin Kylie Auldist and relatively new member Ella Thompson, who Lance describes as a “Melbourne soul prodigy”.
“They both bring very different but complementary sounds to the band. We can explore a whole bunch of different styles within what they’re capable of,” he said.
Ella Thompson offers her dreamy vocals to a number of tracks, including the first single Avenger while Kylie’s hard-hitting tones stand out on psych-tinged highlight, The Truth.
